NSG 482 Promoting Healthy Communities
Definitions of Health
Part of health promotion is meeting a patient at their definition of health. One person’s health goals and possibilities may differ from another’s.
Assume you are a nurse at a community health clinic. Your supervisor has asked you to prepare a summary of definitions of health for the clinic’s staff.
Search the internet for representations of various definitions of health in populations like newborn babies, a healthy older adult, or a person in a wheelchair or with another physical disability.
Based on your research,  write a 525-word summary of your findings in which you:
· Describe 6 representations of definitions of health for the following types of individuals:
· Newborn babies
· Healthy adult Asian woman over age 55
· Disabled 35-year-old African American male veteran
· Pre-teen White female entering middle school
· Sexually active 20-something Hispanic male
· Obese 75-year-old White male living with debilitating arthritis
· Explain the importance of meeting a patient at their definition of health.
Include 3 references.

Developing Trust in the Community

DevelopingTrustintheCommunity.docx

Developing Trust in the Community
In recent years, there have been many cities roiled by officer-involved shootings of minorities. The communities of several cities have led to demonstrations in the streets and debates in the classroom. These cities distrust their public safety organizations and require a change. Find a recent news story that demonstrates how a community has come to distrust a public safety agency, or use one of these events:
· Corrections:  New York Prison Escape: How It Happened, and How it Ended
· Probation/Parole:  Chief Judge Mum on Completed Inquiry Into Cook County Probation Agency
· Law Enforcement:  Task Force Finds Chicago Police Department Plagued by Racism
You can select any public safety agency that has an ethical issue. Supply a link to the news story, and answer these questions in your initial post:
· What practices or events led to the community’s distrust?
· What policy or practices should have been in place to prevent the events that led to community distrust?
Use the textbook readings and module resources to inform your post in the discussion.

Teaching using social learning

Social learning is a theory based on the idea of learning through observation. However, it is not that simple, as people do not imitate all behavior they observe. Bandura (1986) proposed that some basic processes must be present to succeed (as cited in Gluck, Mercado, & Myers, 2020).
Create a scenario where you can use social learning theory to teach a new skill to either a child or an adult. Explain how you would attempt to teach this new skill, including what factors should be present to increase the likelihood of this approach being effective (see the processes that Bandura suggested are necessary!). Also, explain some challenges you might expect to encounter and why social learning may not always be an effective way to teach.

SUBJECT – ENGLISH 9
Topic: Cricket History in India

In this project, you will write a literature review on a topic of interest for you. A literature review surveys scholarly articles, books and other sources relevant to a particular topic, method of research, or theory in order to map the current scholarly conversation.  A literature review does not use source material to make an argument, but it may answer a research question, contextualize/frame one’s own research, and/or gesture toward future research possibilities.
YOU ARE NOT WRITING YOUR TYPICAL RESEARCH PAPER!
In the past you likely wrote “research papers” where you had a “question” you already knew the answer to, and then found three sources who said “You’re right! :)”, you quoted them and said, “I’m right! :)”. This is not that. Please do not write that paper. You’re an adult now, and that’s not how real research happens. In fact we don’t have the time, skills, and resources to do our own firsthand research. We do have the time, skills, and resources, however, to see what experts have already said about a topic.
You will develop a research question you plan to investigate and locate scholarly literature published on your topic. It is unlikely you will arrive at a final definitive answer! You will ultimately synthesize and critically evaluate the source material you collect, walking your reader through the scholarly territory on your topic in a strategically organized six to ten (6-10) page essay. Your main idea should forecast the major themes or findings you observe within your research.
To develop your research question, I encourage you to consider a future area of research for you, a subject related to your major, or a topic that you’d simply like to learn more about. A specific question will make for a more focused review. Your research question will likely shift based on available research. Here are a few examples of initial research questions:
Exciting topics!
· What effect has recreational cannabis legalization had on local economies?
· How is climate change impacting indigenous peoples in Alaska?
· What is the relationship between gentrification and homeless populations in the US?
A number of topics have been done to death, and you will be hard-pressed to impress me when writing about them. If your research topic looks reminiscent of any of these listed below, consider asking tougher questions.
Boring topics…
· How does social media affect teens’ mental health?
· How did COVID further polarize American politics?
· How AI will affect the future of education?
Your question should be broad enough that you can locate at least six (6) pertinent sources but not so broad that you have too much material to cover given the scale of this paper. Read and annotate your sources, paying attention to the major findings, methods, conclusions, limitations, and gaps that emerge. As you plan your literature review, begin to put your sources in conversation with one another as they relate to your research question. How do your sources connect to one another? How does Author A’s work influence Author B’s conclusions? How do Author C’s methodologies differ from other scholars? What limitations affect them? What remains unknown?
As you write, make sure to  synthesize the literature. Do not simply summarize each source one by one. Your essay should be organized thoughtfully by theme/subtopic, method/theory, or chronology. Introduce the scholarly voices at hand, and use summary, paraphrasing, and quotes mindfully. Remember, you are digesting this information and presenting it to the reader. Based on your discussion, your final considerations should address implications or recommendations for further research.
If you wish, you may frame your essay by discussing your relationship to the topic you’ve chosen, your research interests, and/or your experience conducting the literature review. Just make sure you have met the other requirements for this genre.
 Requirements for Literature (Sources)
· Five (5) sources!
· Peer-reviewed (e.g. article from a scholarly journal or chapter of a scholarly book_
· Of genuine interest to you or relevant to your major (i.e. you may write about or conduct research on a similar topic one day)

Overview
In this journal assignment, you will be asked to answer questions about the case study at the end of Chapter 5 in the textbook.
Prompt
Considering the ethical ramifications of decisions, while also considering all other factors, requires practice. In order for you to practice this skill, you will be taking a look at the case study at the end of Chapter 5 in your textbook. After reading the case study, write a journal assignment in which you answer questions from the textbook.
Specifically, address the following  critical elements:
I. Ethics
a. In your opinion, has Camper’s behavior jeopardized her case or the reputation of the Icuza Juvenile Probation Office? Why or why not?
b. Have Camper’s actions been ethical? Defend your answer.
c. If you believe that Camper was unethical, identify the point at which she crossed the line. How might this type of behavior impact the delivery of services to both the current client and his mother, as well as to Camper’s other clients?
d. Why are ethics so important in criminal justice? How should managers ensure that employees understand and exhibit ethical behaviors?
II. Management
a. What should the manager do in this situation?
b. What steps should be taken to ensure this does not happen in the future?
For help, reference the textbook and resources for this module. This assignment will help prepare you for your Milestone One: Draft of Organizational Strategy Proposal.

Discussion for week 2

Mercedes-Benz, a leading automotive company with a strong global presence, faces various challenges in designing its organization for the international environment. One significant challenge is cultural diversity within its workforce. With operations in numerous countries, Mercedes-Benz encounters differences in language, communication styles, work ethics, and values among its employees. Managing this cultural diversity is crucial to ensure effective collaboration and synergy within the organization. According to a Business Horizons article, “By leveraging both mass production and distribution, leading cost-based multinationals have been able to perform in a superlative manner (Shanklin et al., 1996)”. Mercedes-Benz has implemented cross-cultural training programs for its employees to address this challenge. These programs aim to increase awareness and understanding of different cultural norms and practices. By promoting cultural sensitivity and inclusivity, the organization fosters a more harmonious work environment where employees from diverse backgrounds can collaborate effectively.      Another challenge that Mercedes-Benz likely faces in global organizational design is ensuring consistency in brand image and product quality across various markets. Different countries have distinct regulations, customer preferences, and competitive landscapes, which can impact how the brand is perceived and the products are received. Maintaining a consistent brand image and delivering high-quality products worldwide is essential to uphold Mercedes- Benz’s reputation for excellence. To tackle this challenge, Mercedes-Benz has established global quality standards and strict brand guidelines that apply universally across all markets. By adhering to these standards and policies, the organization ensures that its products meet the same level of quality and that its brand message remains consistent worldwide. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz conducts market research and adapts its strategies to local preferences while staying true to its brand values. According to a Journal of Management in Engineering article, “Within the global design and construction industry, leaders have adopted total quality management (TQM) as the strategy to move closer to consistently satisfied clients and project profits—each job, each time, without exception (Hayden, 1996)”.      Cultural diversity and maintaining consistency in brand image and product quality are two significant challenges that Mercedes-Benz likely encounters in global organizational design. Through initiatives such as cross-cultural training programs and global quality standards, the organization addresses these challenges effectively, ensuring a cohesive and successful international presence. According to the textbook, “Truly global companies no longer think of themselves as having a single home country and, indeed, have been called stateless

corporations (Daft, 2021)”.                                                                                                               REFERENCES     Daft, R. L. (2021). When it comes to doing international business, organizations realize that it’s an entirely different ball game. “They sometimes find that transferring their domestic success internationally requires a different approach” (Daft, 2020, p. 222). The product that I have selected to discuss is my 2008 Nissan Altima. Nissan is a car company based in Japan that manufactures cars all around the world. It’s hard to create a structure that fits all the manufacturing plants across the country. There are so many different issues that can be found on different levels. There are different markets and their demands. Multiple differences in culture can be found. Also, there are many different laws and regulations for all countries that are set in place. So the challenge arises when trying to find a healthy balance to constantly operate within each of these countries. Which requires constant work because these factors are constantly changing across the globe.        It is also hard to manage each different manufacturing plant and find the right person in a real country. “Nissan found it difficult to attract and retain capable local persons at their overseas subsidiaries and find the optimum utilization of human resources on a global basis” (Furusawa, 2014, p. 168). Nissan must find the correct candidate to run each of the different locations, as well as check on the progress of the current business. The difference in culture and time zones can truly harm efficient work being done. It may lead to delays and not being

able to communicate efficiently. The organization addresses these two problems by conducting market analysis beforehand before even going into the market. Yet, as the market constantly changes, some problems Nissan can’t be proactive about. Simply put, international business is a gamble, and it’s never guaranteed success.                                                                                                                                                                        References  Daft, R. Story of Joe
This story is based on my recollections of my grandfather during my childhood. Even though it was a long time ago, it feels like only yesterday since I admired and revered him so much. I spent three decades of my life influenced by this man and although he probably was not aware of it, I was probably his greatest fan. Since he lived in Philadelphia and I grew up in Ohio I rarely saw my grandfather, but, when I did I loved to do just about anything with him because he just seemed like such a wonderful person, in general. Once when I was about eight or nine years old, I had a chance to stay overnight with him. Although his true name was Joseph, that would never have sufficed for his grandchildren that loved him so much, and, we quickly took up the name Pop Pop Joe, or even just Pop Pop at those very endearing moments. I recall once staying in his home as a young child and just before going to bed I went to say my obligatory “good night.” Upon turning the corner to his bedroom, I stood aghast as a man about 70 years young was jumping up and down and doing so many sit-up’s it made me dizzy. It reminded me of a marine boot camp except he was 50 years beyond the age of recruitment. A 70-year-old man was ancient to a child of my age, and yet, he never slowed down. We played football and baseball together for many years. I still recall how I would catch the baseball with a glove on and each time would cause me pain. One time I did not have a glove for him to wear. He never thought twice about catching the baseball with his bare hands. Pop Pop Joe took great pride in his fitness. “go ahead, hit me as hard as you can” pointing to his abdomen. “Go ahead” he prodded me. “You can’t hurt me, go ahead and try.” Convinced I would kill this poor old gentleman, I lightly punched him and much to my surprise, he was as solid as a brick wall. The next time I really wound up and hit him, only to discover that I had hurt my hand. He just stood there chuckling. When it came time to retire from his employer, he seemed to have a sadness about him that I had never seen before, and I felt very sorry for him. Very soon after his retirement, and numerous rounds of golf, league games of bowling, he reached a decision. “Why retire? He would ask himself over and over.” Only a short couple weeks after that episode he called to break the good news! He had a new job. So, my mother asked him on the phone, “who could possibly want the services of an old pharmacist. (I think she may have hurt his feelings without realizing it). Well, he began, “he was not old, and furthermore, just because he was 61years old why should that keep him from working every day.” I think in the back of my mother’s mind she was saying to herself- “no, don’t ask-don’t ask.” The words fell out of her mouthlike water from a waterfall. “What do you mean 61 years old? What are you telling me-you lied to your employer? How could you do such a thing?” His tone was much lower now and he started to stutter just a little bit.

Yes, it was true, he had lied to get a job. For years he justified it and soon the story started sounding like a confessional from a tax evader. His life was the life of an unstoppable maniac, like a drug addict with his fix, he lived his life as the greatest participant. The waking up at 6am every day, as a self-inflicted sentence that I later saw was a way to cheat the clock that kept the date along with the time on his living room wall. As a pharmacist he loved to tell the stories about “the regulars” that frequented the store where he spent decades filling prescriptions and giving advice that was so greatly appreciated by those that knew and loved him so for so many decades. Pop Pop Joe’s work ethic had been an inspiration to all my life. The job was merely something to keep him busy in between the 18 holes of golf three times a week and the bowling league twice a week at night. The reflections I have about this man continually tell me that someone forgot to tell him he was aging. If only someone had just told him to stop or even slow down, maybe he may have just thought about it long enough to “act his age.” It has been many years now since he passed away, but occasionally I think I was very privileged to know such a person as a relative of mine and to be proud of what he stood for all his life.

Several years ago, I worked on a project with faculty from the Philadelphia College and some industry representatives called the “ACE project”. This stood for Advancing Care Excellence and was a project concerned with the care of elders in the U.S. To get a better idea of what it was all about please read the following excerpt:
Advancing Care Excellence (ACE)-S (senior):

Individualized Aging
Complexity of Care
Vulnerability During Transitions

The three variables of individualized aging, complexity of care and vulnerability during transitions are critical for care for the geriatrician. Meeting the needs of the elderly and providing the care that is really essential to their wellbeing. A nurse needs to know that each person is different, an individual with individual needs. An elder presents oftentimes with complex needs due to their conditions and syndromes of growing older that are part of the aging process or just a part of their medical history. As elders they are susceptible to periods of life where change becomes overwhelming but necessary. The nurse can be an important tool to serve the elderly patient making these periods easier with knowledgeable assistance.
The Advancing Care Excellence or ACE is a way to view the elder in a better light with knowledge about their life challenges and the individual ways they have found to adapt. When confronted with the issues of aging an elder finds the adaptations necessary to live their life in the most productive way. A nurse cannot treat the individual that does not have the tools yet to adapt to these challenges of aging without a personal knowledge to share with the elder patient.
Years later the National League for Nursing decided to put the entire project online. The next assignment is concerning the characters that were developed to exemplify the challenges that the elderly face in today’s society.
